Guiding students for support and inspiration

Michi Ferreol began her educational journey with a life-changing scholarship to the International School of Manila. Coming from a middle-income family, this opportunity showcased education as a powerful equalizer. This path eventually led her to Harvard and a global career across three continents in various educational ventures. Her experiences highlighted the importance of community and connection, especially when navigating job searches and career preparation.

In 2019, Michi met Bless Chavez, a young college student facing significant challenges in her job search. Bless’s struggles resonated deeply with Michi, reflecting a broader issue within the Philippine education system: the lack of adequate career support and resources for students, especially those from lower-income and rural areas. Inspired by Bless’s story, Michi founded KadaKareer to address these gaps and support Filipino youth in their school-to-employment journey.

KadaKareer aims to bridge the exposure, network, and skill gaps that hinder career opportunities for young Filipinos. Through its Virtual Apprenticeship Program, the organization connects students with small businesses, providing practical work experience while helping businesses find talent. This initiative addresses the lack of social mobility and high youth unemployment in the Philippines, particularly in rural areas.

Michi’s journey as a social entrepreneur has been guided by a commitment to impact and sustainability. She emphasizes the importance of meeting users where they are and involving them in the change-making process. Her participation in the Y&Y Fellowship Program has further enriched her understanding of social entrepreneurship, reinforcing her belief in the power of community and mentorship in achieving sustainable social impact.
