About the Social Business: CyprusInno is an exclusive web-based platform offering Cypriot entrepreneurs and problem-solvers the chance to connect with like-minded innovators, network, and even post jobs. CyprusInno empowers entrepreneurs, giving them greater access to co-founders, employees, advisors, and investors.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Steven Stavrou is a digital health strategist, investor, and social entrepreneur. He is currently the co-founder of CyprusInno. Steven received degrees in Biology and Journalism from Binghamton University, where he also studied Pre-Medicine. He received an MBA from Babson College, where he was the Price-Babson MBA Entrepreneurship Fellow. In 2010, he founded Idalion Ventures, a portfolio of websites related to lifestyle, travel, and entrepreneurship that totaled over 1,500,000+ unique visits, 50,000+ social media followers, and 2,000+ published articles. Steven is also active in the global healthcare field. He has conducted medical research (published 2 papers), ran a medical website that trained cardiologists, and was a consultant for the UN on healthcare innovation in Africa. He splits his time between New York (U.S.A) and Cyprus, taking full advantage of his dual citizenship. Steven is also a sustainable tourism advocate. In 2013, he spent four months in Cyprus helping launch a new-age sustainable eco-resort. He became very passionate about the benefits of sustainable tourism and went on to launch EcoWanderlust, an ecotourism travel blog, eco-hotel database, and media company. In 2013, Steven also experienced first-hand the struggle of small business in Cyprus' economic collapse and was inspired to build something that not only helped lift Cyprus and place it on the map for innovation, but also use it to help bridge the gap between both communities. It was during this time that Stavrou read about Doluay and his work on the 8th page of a Google search in a blog post about the first online startup community in the north that had been created by Doluay. The two exchanged emails and collaborated to eventually build what would become CyprusInno. A few weeks after emailing, and just one Skype session later, Doluay was already presenting the concept at a social entrepreneurship conference in Nicosia. What was so powerful about this presentation was that in the process of unveiling the website in Cyprus for the first time, they proved the model. The presentation in and of itself was the concept in action, as a Cypriot presented a bi- communal project that was made possible through a digital collaboration between Stavrou and Doluay with trust and a strong, shared vision for a better island.
