About the Social Business: For the past 6 years, South Sudan has been plagued by a civil war that has resulted in over 5.1 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. Among these, 4.8 million are facing extreme hunger. Throughout these years, the farming community has struggled to grow crops and being productive. GAIS tackles this problem by producing improved seeds through a community-based seed multiplication. The seeds are sold to international organizations (UN and other NGOs) and the profit made is invested in improving the living conditions of farming communities.
