About the Social Business: The Newsroom was born with the mission of fighting misinformation and promoting plurality online. Founded in December 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal, The Newsroom developed explainable AI technology that assesses the trustworthiness of online articles and provides users, through a browser extension, with a transparent assessment of what they are reading, as well as added context on the news through a balanced set of views on the topic they are reading about. Early next year they will be releasing a mobile application delivering catered trusted news, providing users with historical and current context, as well as community engagement and the opportunity to take action on the news.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Pedro’s academic background is in Economics (University of Porto) and Management (HEC Paris), but he has spent most of his career as a data scientist, working in the field of big data. He worked for two years as a consultant for Deloitte, and four years in data science, most recently leading a team of analysts for LinkedIn. This experience was an opportunity to explore the data of one of the world’s biggest social media companies and research how users interact, connect and share content on the platform. At The Newsroom, Pedro leverages this range of experience to bridge business objectives with highly technical requirements. He is responsible for defining the company’s product vision, and leading the company’s technical product development.
