Organization Name: Chrystal Heart
Impact Region: Africa
About the Social Business: Chrystal Heart is an organization to empower vulnerable households to afford basic socio-economically and emergency needs. The organization currently implements “Tuchafuke” project for “Let’s Get Dirty.” The organization presently operates a hydroponic farming learning center, where the beneficiaries learn the farming model and are supported to install hydroponic farms as farmer groups of 10 members each. The hydroponic farming model has proven to increase production since it is soilless and the products access nutrients from water pumped through their roots. The model supports farming within a controlled environment and saves water through recycling. Chrystal Heart empowers vulnerable households by initiating agribusiness ventures and linking them to savings and internal lending communities (SILC) to promote resilience and sustainability.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Odhiambo Antone is a 33-year-old Kenyan coming from Siaya county with the first degree in Anthropology. He works with Chrystal Heart within the Siaya County community to eradicate poverty and hunger among the vulnerable households, including those living with HIV, through sustainable social businesses. At Chrystal Heart, he is the head of programs and business development.
