About the Social Business: Replast Engineering Nigeria is a pioneering social enterprise that focuses on providing sustainable and affordable solar energy solutions specifically tailored for women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. The company addresses the critical challenge of unreliable electricity in Nigeria, which hampers productivity and growth among SMEs. By offering customized solar energy systems, installation services, training, and access to financing, Replast enables women entrepreneurs to transition from expensive and polluting diesel generators to reliable, clean electricity. Before Replast became what it is today, it originally began as a plastic-for-cash program, recycling over 50 tons of plastic waste while also creating economic inclusivity for underprivileged women and children.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Kelvin Steve is a social entrepreneur committed to expanding affordable clean energy access. He graduated from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria with a bachelor’s in civil engineering. As the founder and CEO of Replast Engineering Nigeria, Kelvin combines his engineering background with a passion for sustainable development to empower women entrepreneurs through tailored solar solutions. Inspired by his mother’s challenges with power outages in her small business, Kelvin has developed Replast into a company that prioritizes people over profits, tackling obstacles like high upfront costs, team alignment, and severe inflation rates in Nigeria. As an award-winning entrepreneur, Kelvin aims to scale Replast’s impact, providing reliable, renewable energy to thousands of SMEs across Nigeria and beyond. Outside of Replast, he is also a founding partner of the Growth Hub Africa, which provides business consultation for exponential growth.
