About the Y&Y Fellow: John Jal Dak Ruot is a south Sudanese born on 17th September 1994 in South Sudan first born in a family of 5,single, Jal is an under graduate student persuing Bachelor Degree in Development Studies with emphasis on Peace Building and Conflict Management at Bugema University Uganda. He completed his secondary education in Yei Municipality in 2013 where he was awarded a South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Educations (SSCSE) at Rash secondary School in Yei River County central Equatoria state. He completed his primary education, PLE in 2009 at Uganda martyrs primary School Mbarara, in western Uganda. Jal unfortunately became a Refugee in Uganda in December 2013 after his country South Sudan got into civil war, his experiences has been utilized in Rhino Camp refugee settlements where he founded Youth Social Advocacy Team, a refugee Youth Initiative that Advocates for Youth involvement in peace building, Conflict Transformation and leadership, Youth & Women Empowerment, Innovation & Entrepreurship. Jal serves as One Young World Ambasador a community of over 10,000 Youth Globally , Chairperson of Dangerous Speech Network (DSN) Uganda, Reciepient of IDDS 2018 Pico Grant Award, UNHCR Refugee Youth Ambassador, Brand Ambassador for Madi drop, a safe water tablet (Madidrop) based in the USA to support safe water to Refugees in 2017 to date. Jal is a permanent member of International Development Innovation Network IDIN after participation in the International Development and Design Summit IDDS 2018. Jal serves as Refugee Welfare Council 1 chairperson for Agulupi, one of the villages in Rhino Camp from 2014 to 2019, Senior Research Assistant for UNHCR Arua. (SGBV) Taskforce/ SASA Activist for UNHCR 2014 up to 2018. Former Community site supervisor at CEFORD/OXFAM from 2014-15. Jal has been working with the youth in a number of platforms and he is a Youth Consultant at UNHCR Kampala representing Refugee Youth in West Nile at the Global Refugee Youth NGOs Consultations from 2015 up to date. Jal was an Enumerator for the Uganda National Housing and Population Census carried out in 2014 for the Refugee operational areas in West Nile Region. He speaks English, Arabic-Nuer. He is also endowed with Good mobilization & Communication skills. He want to see a World which flourish with Peace and Justice Jal is a great story teller and has been volunteering in a number of Community dialogues. He is sport man and plays football in his free time.
