Ivy Barley

Nationality: Ghana
Organization Name: Developers in Vogue
Impact Region: Western Africa
About the Social Business: Developers in Vogue provides practical and project-oriented training for African women and connects them to mentors and job opportunities in the tech industry.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Growing up, Ivy always loved the classroom and that has been one of the greatest fueling to my passion for education. Ivy is a visionary, innovative, determined and hardworking young lady who desires to make an impact in the education and empowerment of the Girl Child especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) because she believes STEM is neither a boy nor girl's game but rather everyone's game. In her early teenage years, she used to gather the neighbourhood children and teach them for free. She has been able to increase her capacity to even do more than before through the various projects she has been a part of. Like her role model, Mr. Strive Masiyiwa says: ""Anytime you see a child on the streets, when it is school time, it should really bother you because that is your nation's future Aliko Dangote or Kofi Annan, being denied the opportunity to serve us in future. We really, really need you to get involved."" My social enterprise - Developers in Vogue aims at creating a relevant community of amazing African women in tech who are passionate about using technology to revolutionize Africa and beyond. We train young ladies in the latest technologies and match them to real-time projects and jobs. I was recently featured in the Women in Tech book by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. I believe more than ever that this is the set time for Africa to shine and I am very excited to be a part of the generation that would revolutionize Africa in a big way!
