About the Social Business: Chayn aims to establish a global reach to all women facing domestic abuse. It leverages technology to empower women against violence and oppression so they can live happier and healthier lives. Running solely on the passion of skilled volunteers, Chayn leverages technology to address the problems women face today. It is an award-winning, open-source project run by 400 volunteers from 15 countries. Its resources are openly licensed so charities around the world can use, remix and distribute our work! Its design principle is "design with, not for". Chayn is proud to co-design resources with survivors of abuse from around the world. Chayn چین is an Urdu word and it means ‘solace / peace of mind’.
About the Y&Y Fellow: Hera Hussain is based in London, UK. She is a founder at Chayn and currently works as a Senior Advocacy Manager at Open Contracting Partnership. Hera catalyzes communities, journalists, and activists, helping them embrace open data and technological innovation in creating positive change around the globe. A leader and pioneer in the Open Data and Open Government community, she currently runs OpenCorporates’ community and impact programme. This involves working with investigative journalists and NGOs who want to run investigations with open company data. She is a keen member of social innovation networks such as Wikipedia, MakeSense, Startingbloc, WEF's Global Shapers, Yunus&Youth and founded the volunteer-led women's rights group CHAYN. Hera is part of the OpenHeroines group which is a collective to highlight women's role in the open data, open government and civic tech movements.
