Sobre el Negocio Social: Arca, in Portuguese: ’a box with a treasure inside’, is a social enterprise based in Brazil that works in three areas of transformation in the phenomenon of forced migration and gender inequality. We equip marginalized migrant women in South America with creative and employability skills, pay them to register their own stories, and advocate through images and videos amplifying their voices. Arca uses the market forces within the Creative Industry to finance its operations that foster cultural exchange activities with the community, raising awareness and challenging gender and cultural stereotypes.
Sobre el Y&Y Fellow: Lara Machado is a Brazilian curator, designer, producer and feminist. She holds in MA Curating Contemporary Design from Kingston University. She was awarded a Chevening Scholarship, a global programme offered to future leaders by the UK Government. In 2020, she co-founded Arca Fine Arts, a startup focused on the economic and cultural inclusion of vulnerable migrant women in Brazil. She is also an Amani Fellow, concluding the Post Graduate Certificate in Social Innovation Management. Currently, she works as a strategic design consultant and a product designer, with interests in women's rights, innovation and social impact.
