Globally, the number of jobs in STEM fields increased 36% from 10.2 million in 2008 to 26.5 million jobs in 2014, yet there are over 5.6 million underskilled Africans who can not embrace STEM opportunities in the continent and this is why STEMi Makers Africa empowers a talent base of catalyst needed to become tomorrow's change-makers through Professional development of foundational skills for STEM development.
Sobre el Y&Y Fellow: Amanda Obidike is a Certified professional in STEM by the Open University, United Kingdom and Founder of The Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Innovation Makers of Africa (STEMi Makers Africa) where she creates sustainable and implementable projects in underserved Communities across 13 Sub-Saharan countries by preparing the next generation of innovators with access to STEM pathway resources, tools and Professional Development.
She has a Mini-MBA from the International Business Management Institute, Berlin - Germany and a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Business Management from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. She is a Certified professional of Emotional Intelligence and Coaching from the African Management Initiative and the Gordon Institute of Business Science: University of Pretoria, South Africa.
She is a 2019 Global WACREN awardee and The MAI Woman in Technology who is recognized for her passion in raising leaders through STEM and promoting lifelong learning for all.
Amanda chose this work because STEM Education plays a global role in Africa's competitiveness and producing innovative economic leadership. She is passionate about the future economic growth and prosperity of Africa as it depends on an aligned economic system that supports developmental efforts and empowers students to become innovators, self-reliant, critical thinkers and technology proficient problem solvers.
She serves as a Mentor in Cherie Blair Foundation, the 1million Women in Tech Community, Global thinkers for Women where she lends her voice, knowledge, and serves as a role model for girls in West Africa.
Recently, she was given the Global humanitarian act for Gender Inclusion and Social protection award for successfully championing diversity for the girl child, Best Leadership award, YALI RLC- Ghana, and a Mastery Award in Business Intelligence, IBM. She is a member of AnitaBorg Organization, Women Techmakers, USA and Link Engineering Educator Exchange, where she builds relationships and trains educators with integrated STEM content and computer science content as multidisciplinary instruction that transforms pedagogy while simultaneously meeting students’ needs to maximize their learning potential. She is currently writing a publication on “Leave no one behind: A Central Focus on STEM Education, Innovation and Talent Development, a Paper presented to Africans in the STEM Community, Cambridge, England.
