Founder of Vernet, Morocco
Kaoutar’s goal is to eliminate the need for 40% of the population of Morocco to walk for hours to collect water, which is not even clean therefore causing diarrhea, dehydration and sometimes even leading to death. She created Vernet, which brings reliable and responsible water purifications systems to households lacking access to clean drinking water while employing local rural women in the delivery of the solution.
Vernet brings reliable and responsible water purification system to those households that don’t have access to clean drinking water; in order to contribute to substantial health gains in populations. Vernet is a simple customized filtration system, produced based on a mixture of local materials forming pores which have the right size to trap up to 99% of pathogens while allowing water to flow instantly. For more efficiency against viruses, a purifying solution is added on the pot, to react chemically with the water. The Vernet project is now implemented in two villages of Morocco and one village in Burkina Faso.
